The narrative unfolds chronologically with every step you climb, reflecting universal truths of existence. Beginning at the bottom flight, we explore early life and conscious action: Birth (life begins unknowingly), Hunger (need introduces the world), Encounter (choice arrives), Sharing (kindness enters the story), Consequence (good multiplies quietly), and Growth (kindness strengthens the self). Moving upward around the landing, the story deepens into profound life lessons: Sacrifice (selflessness over safety), Loss (all lives contain endings), Death (nothing is permanent), Rebirth (the cycle begins again), Teaching (kindness becomes instruction), Memory (wisdom carried forward), and ultimately Continuation (what was given returns).

Every element of this bespoke commission was tailored intimately to the home’s joinery and dimensions. Each illustration was first hand-painted in our studio in delicate washes of cobalt and manganese tones, drawing inspiration from antique Delftware. After perfecting the compositions and balance, the artwork was transferred onto individually sourced ceramic tiles, complete with bespoke side border panels that ensure each riser fits the precise width and curve of the staircase without interruption.

Behind every bespoke piece is our studio team at House of Petra, where imagination, craft, and close collaboration meet. We see creativity not as decoration applied to a surface, but as a shared dialogue; an opportunity to take a seed of an idea, a piece of family history, or an architectural quirk, and give it physical form. From initial sketches and tile sourcing to refining colorways and hand-painting each custom motif, our team works closely alongside you at every step of the journey. Whether your ideas are fully formed or just beginning to take shape, we invite you to bring us your vision, photographs, and dimensions, and let us build something lasting and full of meaning together.

Commissions like this sit at the very core of what we do at the studio: working closely with clients to weave memory, folklore, and craft into the permanent fabric of their spaces. Whether it is an entire staircase, a kitchen splashback, or a hearth, we believe that bringing personal stories to life on tile creates pieces that will be lived with, loved, and passed down for generations. If you have a space in your home that calls for its own narrative, our team is always here to bring your vision to life.
